Midget mayhem

Strikeitlucky were frustrated last night when they lost 5-1 to little people they could hardly see. Manager Craig Powell was considering a a complaint to Pitch Invasion as he felt it was an unfair advantage that the opposition could put the ball through your legs and follow under as well!

Seriously though, Madeira were a good footballing side and quick at the same time. The fitness levels showed towards the end and they ran out comfortable winners in the end. It is fair to say that every SIL player was knackered at the end!

They opened with a couple of quick goals and this effectively sealed the game as their keeper has a blinder. He blocked every shot and amazingly held on to some with his hands, which we found surprising as we thought his natural grease would make his hands slippy!

The boys came back in to the game after a while and stemmed the flow of goals with some solid tackling and tracking from Elliott, Nick and Tony, and some vital leg saves from Edgar in the sticks.
A good attacking move from Powell and Hudson forced a free kick via a handball and Kingston netted in to the corner.
There was a glimmer of hope for about 2 mins then Madeira scored again, and again. Game over. In fairness, the boys created lots of chances and given a different keeper, would have at least drawn the game, if not won. Just one of those games really. Jason Bell had a couple of first time shots go narrowly wide, Kingston had several shots, all parried by the keeper and Powell and Dempsey were always there abouts but could never get the chances they needed.

One to forget for the boys but it's ok as they are definitely playing Div 2 football next season as other results went their way last night. Good effort from the boys who can go in to the last game with no pressure but will be more than up for a win against Bounty Hunters, who beat them 7-3 a couple of seasons ago.
