Luckies in with a shout

Strikeitlucky have taken one more step towards surviving a tough league 2 by showing why they were Champions of Div 3 tonight.

An awesome team performance led to an 8-2 demolishing of bottom of the league Marlborough Ignition.

The boys were back to their best tonight with every player excelling in their respective positions.
From the back, Mark Edgar made a string of important saves to shut out the oppositions' quick forward. Nick Belcher was as tenacious as ever and stopped both of the forwards from getting shots in with well timed tackles and constant man-marking. By far the best in team in that respect.
Jason Bell and Gary Hudson were always involved in the midfield battles and consistently won the ball and intelligently distributed it to the forwards. The game would not have been won without them.
The Gaffer, Craig Powell, was playing a more forward role and was a constant threat and never gave the ball away once, he even bagged himself a goal. (but should have had two!)
Elliott Dempsey and Matt Kingston were a dangerous partnership up front and it showed as they bagged 7 of the 8 goals between them. Never the less, if it hadn't been for the solid defence and committed midfield, it could have been a different story.

Despite some justified slacking in the second half after the game was won, the result was never in doubt. The highlights weren't the goals but the 'nearly goals'.
Dempsey had a Van Basten-esque volley which was tipped over the bar, Kingston almost killed a substitute with a sweet volley and Edgar had the tenacity to go up for a corner and only the opposition keeper stopped him from scoring.

All in all, it was a superb team performance and builds confidence for the next game.
