A goal in the last five minutes from AC Abingdon dented Strike It Lucky's title hopes last night, even after they had clawed their way back from 3-1 down at half time.
An early blue card for Elliott Dempsey for foul and abusive language made it that little bit harder but nothing they couldn't cope with.
The lads had actually gone 3-0 down before Matt Kingston drew one back before the half after good play on the wing from Jamie Steptoe. He squared the ball and Kingo neatly sidefooted home.
The boys got the (stupidly strong) wind behind them in the second half and a scorcher from Steve Steptoe brought them within sight. A miss-kick from defence sent the ball spinning towards him, he chested and volleyed it home. The record attendance of 8 saw it all the way!
Then just a few minutes later Jason Bell pounced on a defensive mistake to slot home through the keepers legs. NUTS!
The travelling army went bezerk when the ball was in the back of the net for the winner only for it to be disallowed, controversially, after an altercation in the centre circle between Steve Steptoe and some plum, about half an hour after the goal!
The Ref, on the night, had a shocker.
There was a flurry of chances for the boys to take the win including a 40 yarder from Mark Edgar which just caught the wind and headed for Gary Hudson, but he couldn't quite head it in.
Moments before the whistle, a very doubtful corner was shinned home for a 4-3 win for Abingdon.
All in all, a disappointing result, but a gutsy and committed display shows that Strike It Lucky will be hard to beat this season.
