BELCHER BAGS BELTER!!

FINALLY! That's right, Nick has finally scored his first goal for Strikeitlucky, and what a way to do it! Well done mate!
Nick scored the sixth goal in a 6-4 win over Strike Force and effectively sealed the game.
It was a vital goal as well. Unknown to SIL, the later kick off between Gifted But Lazy and Botley Rice Rovers, would be won by the former, meaning that if SIL had lost, they would have finished bottom of the league. They didn't though, and fought very hard, and worked with the ethic that has become Strikeitlucky FC.
All in all, it was a great game. The scoreline altered regularly, 0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 4-3, 4-4, 5-4, then in the closing moments, Nick slotted a curling effort passed the despairing dive from the chimp in goal and it nestled in to the corner. The opponents didn't know what was going on as Nick was mobbed!
Luke continued his goal scoring run with another well placed finish, Matt racked up 4 (some would say 3 and a deflected goal but I'm having it!) and Craig, Tony and Gary worked very hard to stop anything getting through. Mark made a couple of go-go gadget saves with his legs and they were as vital as the decisive tackles from the defence, and the goals up front.

There seemed to be a bit more belief this week and yet again, it was very hard to pick a man of the match as everyone played really well. However there was only really going to be one - Nick.
It's taken a year and a half, but it was well worth it!

So, season over. Next season we look like we'll 'welcoming' the dicks that are AC Abingdon, and Wenn Townsend FC, whoever they are! As long as no new decent teams start in our league, we will have a really good chance to win it next season. Bring it on!!

Tight finish

SIL went down to a hard fought defeat at the hands of Kidlington B on Monday and it leaves it very tight to see how the league will pan out. Gifted But Lazy look favourites to be bottom in 2 weeks but you never know! Strike Force seem to have improved after pushing Sporting all the way as well so it's anyone's guess! SIL still have it all to do.

Goals from Gary and Matt and a good team display were not enough and the rain enforced two week break showed in a few a legs!

It's Busi's Raiders next week and a point is the least the boys should get. Good news is gaffer Craig may be back after his rib injury that has kept him out for 6 weeks but Matt will almost certainly miss out due to work commitments.

7.20pm for a possible league decider!

Moral victory!

SIL went down 5-2 to rivals Sporting Abeerbelly last night but probably came out the moral victors. A win for the boys was unlikely but they worked as hard as they could and put in a good performance. They actually went in the lead when Matt's goal did some pinball on the way but then the opponents football ability took over and they scored 4 well made goals without reply. Luke dragged one goal back to set up an exciting finish but a fifth for the visitors put the game out of reach.

The scoreline reflects the abilities of the two teams but it was never the walkover that was expected from Sporting. Strikeitlucky gave a good account of themselves and go into the next game against struggling Strike Force with renewed optimism.

Craig Powell is still out with his cracked ribs but Ozzy, who missed last night through man-flu, should be fit to return!

The Big Match Live!

Monday 3rd November - 9.20pm - Strikeitlucky VS Sporting Abeerbelly

So then lads, here it is! The big one! We are up against it on Monday as they are flying high but let's send out a warning to all of our remaining opponents and give a fantastic performance!
We need to tackle hard, pass well, move in to space and shoot on sight. We want a team performance like last week. Graft hard, run ya asses off and help each other out!

Mark - Kick like last week, tell the defenders what to do and who to mark.
Nick - Man marking all night mate, it's your best asset. Don't let anyone past you.
Jason - Be aware of who you're marking and don't let them out of your sight! Pass and shoot like last week and you can't go wrong.
Gary - Time to live up the Forrest Gump nickname. We need the fittest guy in our team to use every bit he's got! Track back and help defenders and hold the ball as we know you can.
Ozzy - Keep that passing up, to feet and quick! Few more shots mate, their keeper isn't all that.
Luke - Confidence is growing, keep your head up and put yourself in to a few tackles! Shoot when you know you're close.
Tony - Tackle when you need to, just stand up to him when he's got his back to you. Keep the passing going, and use Mark if you have to.
Matt - (This feels wierd telling myself what to do!) - I'm gonna run my arse off all night! Hard tackling, hard shots, movement and passing. Nothing fancy, just the basics.

Let's make this game something to be proud of boys. It will go a massive way towards a good finish and everyone will be shitting themselves when they play us.

I'm really up for this so I hope you guys are too. Let's get there a bit earlier and get warmed up. I assure you it makes A LOT of difference to your fitness during the game.

Back with a vengeance!

There are times in the season when something happens that changes the course of the league. Last night Strikeitlucky changed the course of their season, by hammering poor Gifted but Lazy.
A defeat would have spelt doom for the boys as they could have gone the whole season without a win. But not this night. The lads gave their best performance in weeks and one of their best ever. Every single player was on top of his game and when you combine good individual performances coupled with a supreme team effort, there is only going to be one winner.

Mark's kicking was spot on all night, he was a useful outfield sub when legs started to tire around him and was unfortunate to concede the goal. Tony put everything he had in to defending but also summoned the strength to push on once or twice. Great tackling and 'shepherding' of opposing attackers was textbook. Jason had a great game, passing accurately, defending hard and intelligently but most of all his confidence in front of goal helped bag a brace at a tight part of the game. Ozzy returned with his best game so far, his all round performance and 'goal' earned him the man of the match award. Well done mate. Luke also had his best game so far and his fitness is clearly improving. His tackles were stronger and his increased confidence in his own ability was clear to see. Great finish for the 6th goal, slotted in at the near post from Gary's corner. Ah yes, Gary! What a game. He has never held the ball up so well and his passing was spot on. If not for his movement then for his non-stop running all night, he could also have got MOM. Matt was up and down all night and and got in some important tackles as well as bagging goals.

In all honesty, every player was Man of the Match last night. The performance was THAT good! The boys must carry this confidence in to the showdown next week. Big games require big performances. Let's shock some people on Monday!!!

Botley get revenge

SIL went down to a 6-1 defeat on Monday against Botley Rice Rovers who got revenge after two previous defeats against the Reds.
A few new players for the opponents definitely made the difference and they will push for the title this year. The Luckies had better stop the rot in their next match against the underachieving Gifted But Lazy. Mondays opponents have never left the bottom league and the boys need to prove why.
Scoring goals and keeping free of injuries seem to be the problem. Manager Craig Powell has got a tough task on his hands.

Outgunned and outrunned!

New league, same old story.

Strikeitlucky went down 3-2 to Team Wolf on Monday, and it was a disappointing result. Not because the other team were better, which they were on the night, but the defeat seemed again to be down to a lack of fitness.
We asked the manager Craig Powell what the reason could be and he didn't say a lot as he had busted his back! (Which we now know to be a some cracked ribs). So we asked Matt Kingston, the team captain, he said "Piss off, my knee has started to go, my ankle is on its way and my groin has gone! So we asked Tony Markham after a strong defensive display, and he said, holding his chest "Better call the ambulance!"

So we are still bemused as the team seemed to be in peak physical condition after the match!

In all seriousness, and we tend to agree with Tony (not to get the ambulance) but that the team need to start occasional training outside of Mondays to work on their fitness levels. A Thursday evening would work best.
Matt suggests that they can do it at Woodstock Town's ground and insists that it has nothing to with it being 50 yards from his house! Any other suggestions are welcome!

Back to the game, the team did not seem to defend as a unit and it was put down to a lack of communication. It has been more than clear that regular keeper Mark Edgar has been sorely missed, but don't tell him!
The three goals would all have been saved by Inspector Gadget and he would have marshalled his defense. He is back this Monday to face rivals Botley Rice Rovers, and not a moment too soon. Botley smashed 12 goals last Monday and have a pretty good forward. Let's hope Mark hasn't had too many cervezas on his hols!

The two goals the Reds scored were well taken and well made. Gary bagged his 25th goal for the club after a lovely bit of route 1. He latched on to the ball and kept his composure really well to slot home in to the corner. Then new signing Luke got his first for the club after a great passing move. If they can pass like that every week, like we know they can, SIL will still be challenging for the title this season.

A few new players so a full squad from now on and we have to start defending this season!

Bish bash bosh!!

We hammered 'em. We took 'em apart! They were sh.........ocking!
Long story short, one of our biggest ever wins and a brilliant way to end a crappy losing run!
The whole team was awesome and it's just a shame that we have lost a game this season because if we play like that every week, no-one will ever beat us!
Bring on bottom of the table Botley!

First game loss but all not lost

SIL went down to a 5-2 defeat last night to the new boys Unreal Madrid in a physically demanding encounter. The new boys of Div 3 were the better side and look like title contenders already but the home side did well to keep in touch.

The 5 goals that SIL conceded were all well taken goals and any team would struggle to stop them this season.

Despite the defeat, several good thing were to come out of the performance.
Craig Powell was the man of the match with a spirited display, scoring a goal and defending hard whilst setting up a few chances. Well done mate.
Nick and Tony were as tenacious as ever and the textbook man marking we know them for was on display again. It was only tired legs at the end that stopped both of them getting MOM.
Jason Bell and new signing Adam, Jason's brother, were up and down the pitch all night and Gary and Matt were always a threat on goal. Gary sealed his new contract with the team by slipping in a neat finish from a shot from Matt.
Mark Edgar got some more pitch time in this game and he was always smart with his distribution and ran some poor sod dizzy with his 5 Cryuff turns!

The performance has lifted the teams spirits and they strongly feel that they can beat a lot of teams in this league. We shall wait and see!

Next Match is Monday 1st September against AC Abingdon.

Season 8 fixtures are out and there are a few surprises for us!
Two new teams which we know nothing about are in our league now and the most disappointing thing is that Sad Hams Allstars got promoted, from THIRD, up to Div 2.
We face one of the new boys, Unreal Madrid, in our first game at 8.40 on Pitch 2.

All the fixtures are in the 'Fixtures tab on the right but I'll put them here for now too.

BRING IT ON!!

Personally, I cannot wait for next season! Div 3 is probably our most suited league. (however we haven't tried out Div 4 yet and would rather not try!)
Just look at the League for next season!

Strikeitlucky FC
BD FC

Sad Hams Allstars
Blackwell Boys
Botley Rice Rovers
Garden Town
AC Abingdon
LLA Galaxy

We have played all of these teams before with the exception of LLA Galaxy, who have never been much cop!

It is going to be a close, tense, but bloody enjoyable and exciting season, possibly the most engrossing yet!

On Monday night, lets all get there a little bit earlier (that means you too Nick!) around 20 mins if possible, do a good warm up and kick about and have a new Team photo!

We should all go for a beer afterwards at the Harvester to toast Craig and thank him for running both the team and the finances for the past year. Craig has done a great job which has been very difficult at times due to certain circumstances.
Craig has moved upstairs as Chairman so let's not tell him what we really think about him just yet!! (Joking fella!)
I appreciate it if it's a late kick off and some can't make it but do try if possible guys.

Keep checking the website for the time and date of Monday nights game.

Have a good weekend fellas! (Sorry Mark and Jase!)
